Lights, Cameras, Kanopy!

Film lovers and movie watchers galore have asked for it; we got it! Starting on Tuesday, January 9, Kanopy PLUS (Public Libraries Unlimited Subscriptions) has officially launched with the new year! Digital streaming has been a long-awaited feature that patrons have been looking forward to experiencing.

Each Kanopy PLUS pack has between 250-300 titles that have been hand selected to fit a specific theme. Some of the PLUS packs that are being offered are:

• British Cinema & TV: A unique blend of intriguing mysteries, addictive dramas, and big-hearted comedies for your Anglophile patrons who relish proper British movies and TV series.
• Episodic Titles: A kaleidoscope of bingeable and thrilling narratives and documentaries with something for everyone: thrillers, classic theater, reality series, historical procedurals, and much more.
• Favorites: Staff and patrons picks featuring crowd pleasers and acclaimed actors. These dramas, comedies, thrillers, documentaries, and television series will please a range of audiences.
• Easy Watching: Crowd-pleasing comedies, fun and entertaining documentaries, popular classic cinema, and family-friendly films. These stories will entertain and charm your community.
• World Cinema: A selection of international films that span various cultures, the Pack unlocks recent theatrical hits and critically acclaimed classics from various genres to patrons.

These Kanopy PLUS packs are available to anyone with a Citrus Libraries library card. The included titles will be available for checkout 24/7, with no holds or waitlists. “Kanopy PLUS is the perfect addition for Citrus Libraries to branch out into streaming,” said Library Acquisitions Manager Karen Fellows. “We have watched our library system’s digital statistics closely over the last few years and have seen quite the increase since 2020. Currently digital checkouts account for 22% of the checkouts that Citrus Libraries sees annually. We also know that our patrons love their movies, and adding an online viewing option is something we’ve been working to add for awhile now. We’re excited to see what doors this could open for the future!”

Additionally, Kanopy Kids, a thoughtful entertainment source for children aged preschool and up will be available. This family friendly category will provide parents and caregivers the ability to stream videos from a curated selection of educational and enriching videos that are developmentally appropriate. Also included are age-based ratings and additional parental controls to help keep kids safe. The Kids’ categories include TV Series, Learning Languages, Animated Storybooks, Classic Films, and Movies for the Whole Family, with some familiar characters including Arthur, Franklin, Blippi, Sesame Street and more!
