Citrus Libraries Embarks on Emotional Journey through U.S.-wide Book Club

Booklovers in Citrus County can now join readers from over 16,000 public libraries and colleges across the United States enjoying this year’s Together We Read: US digital book club selection. From February 21 to March 6, Citrus Libraries patrons can read Terah Shelton Harris’s thought-provoking debut novel about family, redemption and unconditional love in, One Summer in Savannah as an ebook and audiobook for free. Readers can access the digital book for free with no waitlists or holds by downloading the Libby app or visiting http://libbyapp.com/library/citrus.

The Together We Read: US digital book club connects readers through thousands of U.S. public libraries and colleges with the same ebook for two weeks. Readers in Citrus County need only a valid library card from Citrus Libraries to get started. This free program is facilitated by OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines and creator of the award-winning Libby app. “Since October, Citrus Libraries has continued to see an increase in demand for digital materials,” said Library Director Adam Chang. “Last year at this time about 20% of our total checkouts were from digital materials. This year, digital checkouts contribute 33% to our overall total. Staff are continuing to find new ways to add digital services due to the increased demand from our patrons.”

One Summer in Savannah begins eight years after Sara Lancaster left her home in Savannah, Georgia. Eight years since her daughter, Alana, came into this world, following a terrifying sexual assault that left deep emotional wounds Sara would do anything to forget. But when Sara’s father falls ill, she’s forced to return home and face the ghosts of her past.

While caring for her father and running his bookstore, Sara is desperate to protect her curious, outgoing, genius daughter from the Wylers, the family of the man who assaulted her. Sara thinks she can succeed—her attacker is in prison, his identical twin brother, Jacob, left town years ago, and their mother are all unaware Alana exists. But she soon learns that Jacob has also just returned to Savannah to piece together the fragments of his once-great family. And when their two worlds collide—with the type of force Sara explores in her poetry and Jacob in his astrophysics—they are drawn together in unexpected ways.

One Summer in Savannah is published as an ebook by Sourcebooks and audiobook by Tantor Media.
