Citrus Libraries A-Z: Week 4

For the Citrus Libraries A-Z: Week 4 we’re featuring the letters Q-V!

September is Library Card Sign-up Month! This year we’re going “Beyond the Books” as we celebrate all of the services and resources that the libraries provide in addition to reading materials with our Citrus Libraries A-Z series!

In true library fashion we will be working our way through the alphabet, from A-Z, showcasing Citrus Libraries. So, grab a friend (preferably one without a library card) and spend the month with the library!

Q is for Quiet Areas & Study Rooms

Q is For Quiet Areas & Study Rooms!

Have you ever needed a place where you can concentrate to get a project completed? Our Quiet Areas and Study Rooms are fantastic spaces available for anyone to use. Some library staff members can even be found teaching technology or craft classes there when community rooms are being used by large groups! Or, you may spot a local author doing some edits on her next book. Study rooms are available at the Central Ridge and Homosassa Library, quiet areas are available at all branches.

R is for Reading Tree

R is For Reading Tree!

In February of 2021, we asked for the community’s help with the Reading Tree, and you all showed up big time! In just over a month, we were able to add more than 665 new books to the library’s collection! Such a huge accomplishment was made possible by local businesses and patrons coming together to give the gift of a book to our libraries, so that everyone in our community can enjoy them.

S is for StoryWalk Citrus

S is for StoryWalk Citrus!

We love getting out in the community and have fun, interactive activities for families to participate in. StoryWalk Citrus gives us the perfect opportunity to encourage reading and movement, all in one activity! Starting in October, StoryWalk Citrus will be present at many of the events and festivals that the library attends. So, stop by, say hi and walk your way through a good book! We’ll see you at the Crystal River Scarecrow Festival, Trunk or Treat at the YMCA and Floral City Heritage Days!

T is for Technology Education

T is For Technology Education!

Education of all kinds is a cornerstone of what libraries do. The Technology Education classes that are offered here cover topics of all varieties! From Getting Started with Computers to Excel Intermediate, then from the basics of using an iPhone to Alternatives to Cable TV. We have a little something for everyone! Every branch offers a variety of classes every week, and citizens of any skill level are welcome! Discover upcoming Tech Talks or Computer Lab classes on our Calendar. Or view descriptions for all of the types of technology classes that we currently offer.

U is for Upcoming Events

U is For Upcoming Events!

One of our favorite new sections on the homepage is Upcoming Events! Scroll down just a bit and you’ll see events that are happening at all of the branches. Simply click on the event you’re interested in to learn more information. You will be automatically redirected to our library’s events calendar where you can find something for everyone in the family!

V is for Volunteers

V is For Volunteers!

We can’t thank our amazing volunteers enough! With their help, our libraries are able to accomplish some amazing things. From tutoring learners weekly to coming back season after season to shelve books, teach classes, assist in our summer programs, and read to kiddos, their dedication is evident to all! If you’re interested in learning how to be volunteer, check out our Volunteer Opportunities page. Are you a High School student in Citrus County who wants to volunteer for fun or to get hours to apply for a scholarship or Bright Futures? Take a look at our Teen Volunteer opportunities and see how you can apply .

Look forward to next week’s set of letters for Library Card Sign-up Month!

Check out last week’s Letters.
