Florida Seashells: Past and Present

Being a Florida resident, you’re probably no stranger to the seashells found along the coastline. But have you ever thought about all of nature’s processes that have to come together to make them and put them there?

Join scientists Leslie Moore and Pat Gould of the SETS Foundation as they pass along some of their expertise on fossilized and modern seashells found in Florida. They will be presenting at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills on Thursday, January 18 beginning at 10:30 AM. Learn about the ancestral history of Florida’s seashells by looking at the fossilized shells which were found in quarries and sand pits, along with current shells found along the beaches in Florida. Follow along with Leslie, a Malacologist Cataloger at the Smithsonian’s Seashell collection, as she takes you through the seashell families found throughout the state. Registration is required, please register with our online calendar, in person, or by calling your local library branch.

Library programs are free and open to the public.
