Why did you start volunteering?
Since retiring as a teacher of English as a Second Language, I was looking for a way to stay connected to students and promote literacy.
Has volunteering changed how you see the library?
There are so many ways the library supports our residents. I am impressed by the variety of activities being offered from children’s literacy programs to history to technology to crafts to wellness and so many more. It’s much more than a place to get a great book—of course, it is that, too!
What’s been one of your favorite volunteer moments?
I’ve been visiting one of the local preschools as part of the library’s Tales on Wheels program. It’s always a treat to see all of those excited faces when I come to read to them.
What’s something you would say to encourage someone else to volunteer?
There’s something for everyone. Volunteering, a little or a lot, can be very rewarding as we work together toward building a strong community. The library staff are so pleasant, extremely helpful and appreciative.
