Volunteer Spotlight July 2026
Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, the Floral City Library would like to shine the spotlight on Valerie. We asked Valerie several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Valerie
Q: Why did you start volunteering?
A: I started volunteering to get out and meet people in the community. We had moved to Floral City during Covid and hadn’t a chance to meet many people.
Q: What inspired you to volunteer with the library?
A: I always loved to visit the library growing up and just wanted to be involved within our community.
Q: How do you balance your volunteering with other activities in your life?
A: We learned that we have to keep a shared calendar to avoid conflicts. The staff is also very understanding and will work with you to make a schedule.
Q: What book do you recommend to all of your friends to read and why?
A: The Women by Kristin Hannah, it is a story of women in the Vietnam War and their struggles during and after. It offers a glimpse into a little seen or explored topic, the trauma experienced by female veterans and their often-unnoticed contributions.
Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?
A: I love to read! Good thing I have access to so many books! 😊 I also enjoy crafting and watching old sitcoms late at night.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I love Italian food, its like a hug, and just makes you feel good!
Thank you, Valerie, for dedicating your time to the Floral City Library! We truly appreciate all of our volunteers and are glad to spotlight one of the many special people that help to keep our branch running smoothly.
Citrus Libraries is always looking for more volunteers to help in our branches!
