Volunteer Spotlight October 2026

Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Central Ridge Library would like to shine the spotlight on Mary. We asked Mary several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Mary

Q: Why did you start volunteering?

A: I came to the library for books and found Miss Sue’s Color Me Happy class in 2018. She made me realize how much people needed to reach out and interact with others. I met new friends and found that I enjoyed coloring. I became a volunteer and never stopped.

Q: How has the community responded to your efforts as a volunteer?

A: We introduced Diamond Painting to a group in 2018 by having an introductory class. After class, some of the group asked if we could meet weekly to work on projects. From then on, the group grew and people joined and thanked me, saying that they no longer sit home alone. Everyone looks forward to Tuesday’s Color Me Happy club and Friday’s Diamondizer’s club as much as I do.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: James Patterson

Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?

A: In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Q: What other causes are you passionate about and why?

A: I am passionate about taking care of stray cats in my neighborhood and making sure that they have food and feel safe.

Thank you, Mary, for dedicating your time to the Central Ridge Library! We truly appreciate all of our volunteers and are glad to spotlight one of the many special people that help to keep our branch running smoothly.
