Reiki for Wellness: How it can Help

In the world of holistic medicine, Reiki is a term that comes up over and over again. But what is it and what is it used for?

Reiki combines the Japanese character for rei, which translates to ‘spirit’, ‘divine’, or ‘sacred’ with the one for ki, which translates to ‘energy’, specifically vital or life energy. Reiki refers to a Japanese technique of alternative therapy that is said to facilitate energy transfer from one person to another by way of the palms, in order to encourage either physical or emotional healing. While there are no scientific studies to promote the effectiveness of treating physical ailments, participants have said that the process is relaxing, meditative, and can help calm anxieties and balance out stress levels.

Reiki Master Betsy Schwartz will be at Lakes Region branch on September 22nd at 1:00 PM to do a presentation on Reiki therapy and how it might lead to better mental health, reduced stress and fear, and an improvement in overall well-being. The Ancient Practice of Reiki for Wellness is intended to be informational and registration is not required.

Library programs are free and available to everyone. For additional information about programming please call your local branch or follow @CitrusLibraries on Facebook or Instagram. Additional information can also be found by visiting us at citruslibraries.org.
