Quitting: More Than Just Blowing Smoke

Snuff out your butts and kick the habit once and for all! Smoking is the leading cause of death in the US and, according to the CDC, around 16 million Americans are currently living with smoking-related conditions. Between the effects on the smoker themselves and those of secondhand smoke, the best thing we can do for our health is quit—for good!

Nicotine is highly addictive and, like other addictive substances, trying to quit without support can lead to a yo-yo cycle of starting and stopping without long term success. That’s where organizations such as the Gulf Coast North Area Heath Education Center (GCNAHE) comes in.

On March 20th from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, there will be a 2-hour workshop at the Lakes Region Library in Inverness to help give you the support and the tools you need to improve your health and give it up for good. Group participants will learn about the health risks associated with tobacco use, the benefits of quitting, symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, and triggers. They will also learn about Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products that can help during the quitting process. Participants receive a free 4-week supply of NRT, while supplies last and if medically appropriate.

Tools To Quit is a free program but registration is required. Participants will need to call the Gulf Coast North Area Health Center at (813) 929-1000 or visit their calendar at www.gnahec.org to register. Space is limited.

Library programs are free and available to everyone. For additional information about programming please call your local branch or follow @CitrusLibraries on Facebook or Instagram. Additional information can also be found by visiting us at citruslibraries.org.
