Volunteer Spotlight September 2025. Barbara, from the Central Ridge Library.

Volunteer Spotlight September 2025

Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Central Ridge Library would like to shine the spotlight on Barbara. We asked Barbara several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Volunteer Spotlight

Barbara

Q: Why did you start volunteering?

A: I started volunteering at the library after I retired. I wanted to give back to my community as a retired educator being around books and volunteering at the library was a perfect fit

Q: What has been one of your favorite volunteer moments?

A: I enjoy helping Ms. Kim and also Ms. Jacky with Happy Tails, I have met some remarkable people. I have also been able to provide resources to parents when they are seeking educational needs for their child as my teaching career encompassed students with disabilities

Q: What inspired you to volunteer with the library?

A: I was inspired to volunteer by attending the Books and Babies with my grandchildren. I spoke with Taylor Keeran and Ms. Kim, I love how Ms. Kim instills the love of reading in her programs. The staff at the Central Ridge Library are amazing. They are very friendly and helpful, and I have enjoyed getting to know them.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: Currently my favorite author is Kristin Hannah.

Q: What book to you recommend to all of your friends to read and why?

A: I enjoyed reading The Women. I love the story about nurses and their commitment to their country during the Vietnam war.

Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?

A: When I am not volunteering, I spend time with my family to include 2 wonderful grandsons, and time with friends. I also love to read, garden and travel.
