Florida Seashells: Past & Present

This summer the Homosassa Public Library will host the “Florida Seashells: Past and Present” program on Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 AM as part of their Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program. Join scientists and experts Leslie Moore and Pat Gould as they pass along some of their expertise on fossilized and modern seashells found in Florida.

Attendees will learn about the ancestral history of Florida’s seashells by looking at the fossilized shells which were found in quarries and sand pits, along with current shells found along the beaches in Florida. Follow along with Leslie, who is a Malacologist Cataloger at the Smithsonian’s Seashell collection, as she takes you through the seashell families found along Florida’s shoreline. To supplement the presentation, there is an extravagant display for the month of June. Come by and peruse the Florida seashell collection currently on display at the Homosassa Public Library.

Registration is required for the Florida Seashell program. This program is primarily tailored for children, teens and tweens, but can be enjoyed by all ages as well.
