From the Director’s Desk – August 2026

As August begins and students prepare to head back to school, I’d like to congratulate everyone who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Program. Thank you to our incredible library staff, volunteers, and Friends of the Library, who did a fantastic job engaging with and encouraging families to log over 650,000 minutes of reading this summer and helping us surpass our community goal of 600,000 minutes. In addition to reaching this goal, thousands of children and families attended dozens of library programs throughout the summer, making this one of our most successful Summer Reading Programs yet!

This month we welcome the start of Early Voting in partnership with the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections. Central Ridge Library and Homosassa Library are once again early voting sites, helping to provide convenient access for voters across our community. We encourage everyone to review local election information and make a plan to vote.

August also marks the beginning of Florida’s fall gardening season, making it the perfect time to explore our Seed Library. With a variety of seeds available for checkout, it’s an easy way to start your garden. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced gardener, we invite you to attend one of our popular Plant Swap programs or join the Master Gardener Series to share plants, tips, and build community.

Another service that continues to grow is Wireless Printing. Patrons can conveniently send documents from their phone, tablet, or computer and pick them up at the library. Over the past year, patrons have printed more than 120,000 pages using this service.
