From the Director’s Desk – September 2026

As we look ahead to a new year at Citrus Libraries, I’m excited about the many ways we can continue serving our community. A strong library system starts with careful planning and responsible stewardship, and our budget is part of that work. We want to make sure we are investing wisely in the people, resources, and places that make our libraries shine.

This year we recommend adopting the rollback rate. This means Library Services will receive the same amount of money as this year in taxes collected from existing taxpayers. Any increase in taxes collected is expected to come from growth and new construction.

Personnel
We plan to maintain current staffing levels. Our staff are at the heart of everything we do. They bring programs and services to life – from C4Con and summer reading to Storytimes, Spanish classes, crafts, technology classes, making sure we have books and materials available and the everyday exceptional customer service our community counts on.

Library Facilities 
Library facilities are also an important part of the library experience. We want our branches to be clean, attractive, comfortable, and welcoming places for everyone. That takes ongoing work. From mowing and landscaping to power washing buildings and sidewalks, maintaining furniture and lighting, and taking care of the many details that keep our facilities looking and functioning at their best.

Books
Of course, no discussion about libraries would be complete without books. We continue to make targeted investments in our collections based on what our community is reading and requesting. That includes everything from picture books and beginning readers for our youngest patrons to large-print materials and digital collections.

Technology
Technology has become an essential part of how our community uses the library. Reliable Wi-Fi, computers, printing, and other technology services are essential resources. Whether you’re applying for a job, completing a school assignment, attending a virtual appointment, or simply staying connected, we want our libraries to be there for you.

Future Planning
We also look beyond this year. Financial stability and future planning are essential to maintaining strong library services over the long term. We are continually looking for ways to reduce costs, make the most of our resources, and plan for future maintenance, improvements, and growth.
There is a lot of work ahead, but I am excited for it. We have a wonderful library system, an incredibly dedicated library staff, and a community that knows how much libraries matter.
