From the Director’s Desk – April 2026

April is nationally recognized as Volunteer Appreciation Month, and the perfect time to highlight and celebrate the exceptional contributions of the hundreds of volunteers that help support Citrus Libraries. Each year over 300 volunteers invest more than 18,000 hours of volunteering at our libraries. Those 18,000 hours are made up of thousands of positive interactions that help us extend our reach and better serve the community.
Our volunteers are an essential part of library service. Volunteers are all ages, backgrounds, and skillsets. Whether it’s shelving books, supporting programs, delivering homebound materials, or helping at special events, volunteers make a meaningful difference every single day.
I would also like to recognize the dedicated members of our Friends of the Library. This dedicated group of volunteers go above and beyond through their ongoing support and commitment, and play a key role in helping enhance library services. Their fundraising efforts, specifically through book sales, help provide funding for library programs, materials, and other enhancements that benefit our community.
Thanks to the combined efforts of our volunteers and Friends of the Library, we are able to deliver exceptional service and value to Citrus County. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or learning more about the Friends of the Library visit https://www.citruslibraries.org/support-us/ for more information.
Volunteers, thank you for being part of our library community. Your continued dedication is something we all treasure.
