Library Volunteer Gwen S.

Gwen S.

Why did you start volunteering?

“I started coming to several classes that the library offered. They were amazing and I wanted to do anything to help. Since everyone knew I sewed I was asked to help with the sewing classes. I said of course and that started my volunteering.”

Has volunteering changed how you see the library?

“The library isn’t just a place to get books. There are so many different activities. It’s a great place to learn new things and meet new friends.”

What’s been one of your favorite volunteer moments?

“I started the Sit & Be Fit class a few months back. Some patrons only had a small range of mobility. The ones that started coming regularly and would also do the exercises at home showed major improvements on their range of motion. It’s a good feeling knowing this class helped improve someone’s life.

What’s something you would say to encourage someone else to volunteer?

“Coastal Region Library has a fantastic staff. They are friendly and work well together. And like with any job there is always a lot to be done. The volunteers help benefit the staff and all the people who attend. This is a great place to spend time and to know that you are helping a lot of people.
