September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the nation’s public libraries highlight the value of a library card. A public library card opens the doors to free educational resources and activities that bring families together. Libraries not only provide resources to parents and children that support early literacy and lifelong learning, but truly transform how families spend time together.

The Citrus County Library System will work with local schools to ensure that kindergarten and first grade students can receive their first library card this month. Participating classrooms will receive a coupon good for one free kid’s meal from locally participating Subway restaurants.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. It is a time when libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.

In addition to working with local schools, we will also be partnering with Citrus County Animal Services to waive adoption fees starting on September 1, through October 2. All Citrus County library card holders who arrive at the animal shelter with their card in hand are eligible to participate, however, the card holder will still be responsible for the $10 county pet license.

This September we will be showcasing all of the services and resources that are provided to our community. Citrus Libraries has more than 215,000 books, digital materials, DVDs and more that can be checked out at all five branch locations, and through the Libby app. In the last year, the library system has added new services, resources and materials, showing that a library has something for every citizen of Citrus County.

Signing up, or renewing, your library card is easy, and can be done online or by heading into your nearest branch! All of the information you need to know can be found by visiting citruslibraries.org/library-card/.

For more details on additional services and resources please visit citruslibraries.org, like and follow Citrus County Library System on Facebook, or call your local branch.
