Volunteer Spotlight October 2025
Every month, the Citrus County Library System features a volunteer in their “Outside the Stacks” blog on their website. This month, Homosassa Library would like to shine the spotlight on Julie. We asked Julie several questions and thought it would be fun to share her responses!

Julie
Q: Why did you start volunteering?
A: Once I retired and moved to Homosassa I started looking for volunteer opportunities. I visited the library and got my card. I was very impressed with such a nice library in a small town like Homosassa so it was an easy decision what and where to choose.
Q: Has volunteering changed how you see the library?
A: Spending time doing miscellaneous tasks during my volunteer time has helped me appreciate all the things that go on in managing and keeping a library operating. There are all sorts of events and classes that I did not know about and have been able to participate in.
Q: What inspired you to volunteer with the library?
A: I spent a lot of time as a young child at the local library where I grew up especially during the summer. I have always loved reading so volunteering at a library was an easy choice, I was happy to see the need here in Homosassa.
Q: Other than volunteering, what do you like to do with your free time?
A: Reading, traveling, making sourdough bread, camping, boating, fishing, hiking, vegetable and flower gardening, jigsaw puzzles, playing hand and foot. (I don’t ever get bored.)
Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: I lived in Costa Rica once in Playa Zancudo in the southern zone near Panama and once in Guayabal, a small farming village in the northern zone about an hour from the Nicaraguan border.
Q: Tell us about your best vacation ever.
A: I honestly can’t think of a best vacation. Some of my favorite memories since moving here are camping in the Florida State Parks.
