Administrative Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Administration/Operations
Time Commitment:
2 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities include general office duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Excel Software.
  • Must be able to use common office equipment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintain confidentiality in regards to all documentation.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Must be an adult.

COMMITMENT:

  • 2-4 hours per week availability.
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scanning documents
  • Performing data entry
  • Archiving Newspaper Clippings
  • Performing photocopying
  • Filing
  • Special Projects

Book Repair Technician


POSITION CATEGORY: Materials Management
Time Commitment:
2-3 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position of Book Repair Technician assists the Materials Management Team with minor repairs of books. These are materials that have been damaged due to general wear and tear, mostly spines and loose pages that need to be mended.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work well independently following training.
  • Ability to use special tools and to determine the best method/materials to mend books.
  • Incredible attention to detail.
  • A level of patience.
  • An artistic talent and ability to use tape, binding glue and rubber bands in a very careful and creative manner.
  • This position is mostly sitting and bending over for an extended period of time.

COMMITMENT:

  • Set schedule for a few weeks to start, then very flexible but consistent.
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months, due to training requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mend books, repair, and/or clean them.
  • Other duties and projects as needed.

Customer Service Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Circulation Services
Time Commitment:
2-4 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position of Customer Service Assistant is responsible for cleaning returned materials and sorting materials in Dewey Decimal order, alphabetically by author’s last name, book title, and by library –designated categories; shelving materials in the circulating and reference collections; shifting items when shelves are crowded.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to alphabetize and put things in numerical order.
  • Ability to answer the telephone and take messages.
  • This job requires a significant amount of physical activity, including standing, walking, and bending for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to move circulation bins that may weigh up to 20lbs.
  • Must be able to shift materials due to crowding.
  • Work well independently.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Pleasant and courteous.
  • Ability to read fine print on spines.

COMMITMENT:

  • Maintain a regular, weekly or monthly schedule.
  • Notify staff if they cannot report on a scheduled day.
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months for adults or 3 months for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining collection appearance for tidiness and condition.
  • Re-shelving materials by type and placing them in alphabetical or numerical order using the Dewey Decimal system.
  • Checking order of shelved items for accuracy.
  • Responsible for retrieving materials from return bins.
  • Responsible for on-going shelf reading.
  • Shelving paperbacks.
  • Maintain a County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Cleaning materials and shelves as needed.

Homebound Delivery Volunteer


POSITION CATEGORY: Homebound Delivery
Time Commitment:
once a month for 1-2 hours

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Citrus County Library System provides materials for medically homebound patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must pass a Level 2 background check.
  • Maintain confidentiality about the patron’s records.
  • Must be an adult.

COMMITMENT:

  • Ability to deliver and retrieve homebound materials once a month.
  • Commitment of a minimum of one year for delivering the homebound materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivering Materials to individual homes or residences.
  • Picking up and returning materials to library.
  • Packing and loading items into vehicle.
  • Phoning to remind patrons of upcoming visits.
  • Maintain County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Obtaining the necessary information for record requests as needed.

Information Systems Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Library Information Systems Management
Time Commitment:
Flexible

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to assist Information Systems in providing primary helpdesk and systems support to the administrative offices and five branches of our library system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with or strong interest in learning about technology setup, maintenance and trouble-shooting.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft office applications, operating systems, general computer hardware and peripherals, as well as mobile devices including tablets and e-readers is helpful.
  • Hardware, software or networking certifications (i.e. Microsoft MCSE, Cisco CNA) are very helpful but not mandatory

COMMITMENT:

  • Ability to work several hours from 1-3 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a wide variety of technology related tasks as needed either independently or working with Information Systems staff members.

Packaging Processor


POSITION CATEGORY: Materials Management
Time Commitment:
4-6 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position of Packaging Processor assists the Materials Management team with the sorting of incoming and outgoing materials in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to move books and material bins that may weigh up to 30lbs.
  • Work well independently after completing training.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to open a variety of packages and organize incoming materials.
  • Ability to properly package materials.
  • Performing related tasks as needed.
  • Must maintain discretion and a respectful manner regarding a broad range of diverse materials.

COMMITMENT:

  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months for adults or 3 months for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Opening, sorting, and organizing incoming materials from different libraries across the state/country.
  • Properly packaging outgoing materials according to ILL’s workflow.
  • Maintain a regular, weekly or monthly schedule.
  • Notify staff if they cannot report on a scheduled day.

Special Events Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Circulations Services
Time Commitment:
Varies, as needed

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Special Events Assistant is a temporary volunteer position recruited during library special events. Duties vary and are determined at the time of the event.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Enjoy interacting with new people.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Innovative, enthusiastic and willing to try new things.

COMMITMENT:

  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months for adults or 3 months for students.
  • Flexible availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Greeting the public.
  • Directing attendees to a specific area/room.
  • Performing related tasks as needed.
  • Ability to oversee booth or table management.

Tales on Wheels Program (TOW)


POSITION CATEGORY: Youth Services
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per month

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Tow Volunteers travel to preschools and child care centers and present a story time program to children at those locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • May be subject to a Level 2 background check.
  • Must have own transportation and valid Florida Drivers’ license
  • Have strong reading and communication skills.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Able to choose age-appropriate books to read aloud.
  • Adhere to guidelines and respect personal boundaries of children.
  • Must be an adult.

COMMITMENT:

  • Attend initial 1.5 hour TOW training with Youth Librarian.
  • Attend a 2.0 hour Continuing Workshop once or more per year.
  • Work with an assigned preschool or child care center for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Story times may be conducted once a week, twice a month, or once a month, depending on the site’s wishes and the volunteer’s schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Tow Training with Youth Librarian prior to being assigned.
  • Design Educational and fun story times.
  • Maintain a County Volunteer Timesheet.

Technical Processing Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Materials Management
Time Commitment:
2-3 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position of Technical Processing Assistant is responsible for assisting the Materials Management Team with book weeding carts, stamping, and marking books that are being discarded. Place media in new cases, replace old, worn-out cases and put the appropriate labels on DVD and CD cases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work well independently following training and make appropriate decisions on materials needed to label DVDs and CDs.
  • Attention to detail and ability to place multiple labels in there precise locations.
  • Ability to use a paper cutter, scissors, X-Acto knife, hair dryer and other materials to perform tasks.
  • This position is mostly sitting and bending over for an extended periods of time and reading small print with detail.
  • Ability to do repetitive tasks and pull books one at a time for stamping.

COMMITMENT:

  • Set schedule for a few weeks to start, then very flexible but consistent.
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months, due to training requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Weed carts, stamp and mark books being discarded.
  • Place multiple labels on DVD and CD cases and make decisions to replace worn cases.
  • Other duties and projects as needed.

Technology Education Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Technology Education
Time Commitment:
2-3 hours per class or an assigned schedule

(weekly, biweekly, or monthly)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for assisting Library Staff in the Computer Labs during classes with the learners and assisting patrons on a one on one basis when attending the Technology Education Assistant Desk with technology questions regarding the library’s computers and Patron’s personal devices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic Computer and Internet Skills.
  • Friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Familiarity with e-Readers, flash drives, and laptops.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to teach one on one.

COMMITMENT:

  • Commit to a minimum of 6 months for adults or 3 months for students.
  • Must maintain a regular weekly or monthly schedule.
  • Notify staff if they cannot report on a scheduled day.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting library staff with computer classes.
  • Assisting patrons with technology questions when manning the Technology Education Assistant desk.
  • Providing encouragement and support to technology learner of all levels.

Youth Services Assistant


POSITION CATEGORY: Youth Services
Time Commitment:
2-3 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Assists Youth Librarian with youth programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • May be subject to a level 2 background check.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Adhere to guidelines and respect personal boundaries of children.

COMMITMENT:

  • Commitment to a minimum of 6 months for adult or 3 months for students.
  • Notify the appropriate staff if not able to report on a scheduled shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with story time craft preparations or other items for youth programs.
  • Working with Youth librarian to create fun, colorful, and educational youth room bulletin boards.
  • Volunteer may be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain County Volunteer Timesheet.

Adult Literacy


Instructor (Citizenship/Pre-GED)

POSITION CATEGORY: ADULT LITERACY SERVICES
Time Commitment:  Flexible

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Teach a small class at one of the branches of the library on a specific subject. All materials for the class are provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Respectful of cultural differences.
  • Maintain confidentiality about your learner’s life and the work you are doing together.
  • Must be over the age of 19 and have a high school diploma.
  • Have good basic math, reading, and communication skills.
  • Be an approved volunteer through the Citrus County Library System.

COMMITMENT:

  • Must be willing to attend a Continuing Education Workshop at least once per year.
  • Commit to a 7-10 week arrangement of teaching at the same branch, date, and time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take a ProLiteracy certified training workshop before meeting with a learner for the first time. All tutor trainings are offered to the tutors at no cost.
  • Design learner-specific lesson plans based on the goals of the learner.
  • Maintain County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Submit a monthly Tutor Timesheet.

Literacy Assistant

POSITION CATEGORY: ADULT LITERACY SERVICES
Time Commitment: Flexible

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Assist Literacy staff with the Adult Literacy Program. This can include data entry, office filing, or being a class assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Respectful of cultural differences.
  • Maintain confidentiality about the learners’ information.
  • Must be over the age of 19 and have a high school diploma.
  • Have good basic math, reading, and communication skills.
  • Be an approved volunteer through the Citrus County Library System.
  • Must be able to use common office equipment and software.

COMMITMENT:

  • Be flexible in the times to volunteer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Submit a monthly Tutor Timesheet.
  • Data entry, file, fax, and other office related duties.
  • Assist with classes as needed.

ONE-ON-ONE TUTOR

POSITION CATEGORY: ADULT LITERACY SERVICES
Time Commitment:
Flexible

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Meet with one learner at a time. The subject of tutoring depends on the goals of the learner. Frequent areas of need include Citizenship, English conversation skills, learning to read, and Pre-GED subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Respectful of cultural differences.
  • Maintain confidentiality about your learner’s life and the work you are doing together.
  • Must be over the age of 19 and have a high school diploma.
  • Have good basic math, reading, and communication skills.
  • Be an approved volunteer through the Citrus County Library System.

COMMITMENT:

  • Must be willing to attend a Continuing Education Workshop at least once per year.
  • Ability to work with a learner for at least an hour per week for a minimum of 3 months with flexibility to cancel or reschedule due to other commitments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take a ProLiteracy certified training workshop before meeting with a learner for the first time. All tutor trainings are offered to the tutors at no cost.
  • Design learner-specific lesson plans based on the goals of the learner.
  • Maintain County Volunteer Timesheet.
  • Submit a monthly Tutor Timesheet.
