Public Internet and Computer Use

The Citrus County Library System considers the use of any public access computer, network or electronic device service in its facilities an acceptance of this Policy.

All patrons of the Citrus County Library System, regardless of age, have equal access to the materials, information, and technology provided by the library. The Library assumes no responsibility for the use of the Internet by children and young adults under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of parents and/or legal guardians to determine what their children may read, use or access on the Internet. In compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) Links to External Site, opens in new tab. the library filters Internet access on all computers and wireless devices.

Users must have a library card in good standing to access computers and Internet resources in the library. A limited pass may be issued to users temporarily until their account can be restored, until a non-resident library card issued, or while they are visiting the area.

The library is not responsible for insuring the privacy of information transferred over the public network. The use of the Internet cannot be considered secure. Patrons must exercise caution when using the Internet to avoid the disclosure of personal identification information. The library does not recommend using public access computers or wireless services for access to sensitive information or financial transactions of any type.

The Citrus County Library System Code of Conduct policy also applies to the use of all computer and internet access services offered by the library. In addition:

• Library computers, electronic devices, and access to the Internet may not be used for any activities that violate local, state, or federal laws.
• Installation, downloading, or modification of software on library owned computers or electronic devices is prohibited.
• Users will respect copyright laws and licensing agreements.
• Users will not make any attempt to gain unauthorized access to restricted files or networks, or to damage or modify computer equipment or software.
• Users must end their session and leave the computer when asked to do so by library staff.

Library staff are authorized to terminate any user’s access, or to prohibit a user from subsequent access, for a reasonable period of time, given cause to believe that the user has failed to comply with the Code of Conduct or this Policy. Such prohibition of use at any Citrus County Library System facility will be effective at all Citrus County Library System facilities.

Repeated violations, or a single egregious violation of this policy, could result in being permanently barred from all County libraries.
