Policy 10

Library Code of Conduct

Members of the public are expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that does not interfere with others and that is in keeping with the nature of the library’s programs and services. The Citrus County Library System provides space for educational classes, recreational programs, reading, studying, research, meetings and community gatherings, and use of computers and other digital devices. Not adhering to the standards of acceptable library behavior may result in removal from the building and / or restriction of library privileges.


Disruptive, unsafe, or threatening behavior includes, but is not limited to:

  • Campaigning, soliciting, or petitioning in the library
  • Conducting mobile phone calls in the library
  • Displaying unacceptable attire:
    • Not wearing shirt or shoes
    • Undergarments worn as outer garments
    • Swimwear/bathing suits not concealed/covered by outerwear
  • Disturbing patrons or staff by poor personal hygiene
  • Disruptive behavior that disturbs others
  • Food or drinks without secure tops
  • Gathering in disruptive groups
  • Horseplay/Fighting
  • Leaving children unattended
  • Refusing to leave library property at closing or during any emergency evacuation
  • Sending, displaying, or printing obscene material
  • Sleeping
  • Unauthorized use of library equipment
  • Use of alcohol, tobacco, or vaping products
  • Verbal, physical, or sexual harassment
  • Violation of any federal, state, or county law

 

The following may not be brought into County Library facilities:

  • Animals, except for “service animals”
  • Bedrolls/blankets
  • Bicycles
  • Food/drink that is not securely sealed or covered or at specified library approved program or functions by pre-arrangement and with approval of the Library Director or designee
  • Illegal drugs
  • Weapons
