Abstract: I loved this book yet did not like the fact that I loved it. Set in the 1930s, full of alluring descriptions, and featuring a headstrong lead character, this is a literary novel that is also full of scandal, sex, and secrets.Thea is a complicated, imperfect, totally screwed up character who manages to be loving, brave and kind. She is a product of her circumstances who does the best she can with what she has.
