About Tails & Tales


Learn about animals that soar and fly, swim in the sea, or walked the land in the past in our summer reading programs! Each Library will host a different themed event each week throughout the summer featuring tales, songs, games, and other fun activities.

Animals help humans in so many ways. Discover the bountiful benefits of being around some amazing animals.

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • 1 Egg Carton Dome
  • Small Piece of Chenille Stem
  • 2 Wiggle Eyes
  • A Length of Red Crepe Paper
  • Tacky Glue

Wing your way to the library for some sky-high good times, as we celebrate birds of a feather, bats, dragons, and more. Prepare for liftoff, and let your imaginations take flight

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • Cardboard Tube (from paper towel or toilet paper roll)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Birdseed
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Bamboo Skewer, Wooden Dowel or Popsicle Stick
  • Butter Knife

p>Spiders, Roaches, and Rats, Oh my! Join us to have fun learning about animals that are not quite so cute and cuddly. They might just “worm” their way into your hearts.

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • Dates
  • Pecans or Walnuts
  • Cream Cheese
  • Butter Knife
  • Plate
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon

Explore the past with this ‘dino-tastic’ program. Test your knowledge of all things prehistoric and learn the skills needed to be an expert paleontologist.

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • 6 Cups Flour
  • 2 Cups Salt
  • 4 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Cups Warm Water
  • Red Food Coloring
  • 5 Drops Dish Soap
  • 2 Tbsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 Empty Soda Bottle
  • Baking Pan or Pie Pan

Come on down and experience the life of a farmer. Have a good ole’ time herding sheep, riding horses, and roping cows.

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • 1/2 Cup Ice Cream Salt (AKA Rock Salt)
  • 1 Cup Half and Half
  • 1 Tbsp. Vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp. Small Toppings
  • 1/2 Bag of Ice
  • 1 Gallon Sized Freezer Bag
  • 1 Pint or Quart Sized Freezer Bag

Gear up at base camp, then go on an animal adventure. It’s a jungle in the library and you’re going to have a wild time!

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • 1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp. Prepared Mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1 Red Pepper (Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 Yellow Pepper (Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 Bag Baby Carrots or Carrot Sticks
  • Small Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Round Platte

What is under the sea? Come and explore the layers of the ocean and its creatures who dwell within.

These are the materials you’ll need to get and use when doing the virtual activity at home:

  • Light Corn Syrup
  • 3 Large Paper Cups
  • Blue and Green Food Coloring
  • 32-Ounce or Larger Glass Jar with Lid
  • Blue Dish Soap
  • Water
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Rubbing Alcohol
