Become a Learner
Would you or someone you know like to improve their reading skills? The library system offers an Adult Literacy curriculum that can help.
Learners are paired one-on-one with trained tutors who help learners reach their goals. Our learners’ goals can be anything from passing the GED to reading their children a bedtime story. Reading skills are essential to every day life, and the library system wants to help learners succeed and better themselves.
Besides Adult Literacy tutoring, the library also offers Citizenship Classes designed to help eligible individuals pass the U.S. Citizenship exam.

Become a Tutor
Can you imagine going through life being unable to read? Please consider becoming an adult literacy volunteer tutor for the Citrus County Library System. If interested, we will provide the necessary training so that you can become a qualified literacy tutor who can provide free tutoring to an adult wanting to learn to read and write English.
If you are over the age of 18 and would like to help people in your community and you are able to donate a minimum of 1 to 2 hours per week to assist an adult learner, this is your opportunity!
So, what requirements are there to be an adult literacy volunteer tutor? First, the volunteer tutor will be required to attend a 12-hour LitStart Training Workshop and undergo background screening. Second, the volunteer tutor should have the following personality attributes:
• Caring attitude
• Organizational skills
• Nonjudgmental disposition
