Author Vicky Iozzia will discuss her book, “I’m Lu the Hippopotamus”, the “true” story of the one and only hippo, Lu that has lived at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park since the 1960’s. This picture book tells of his daily experiences at the park, from Lu’s point of view. Book signing to follow program.
Vicky Iozzia was born in New York and grew up in the suburb of East Meadow, on Long Island. When she retired fourteen years ago from her teaching position she moved to Florida. CCLS Staff Make Donation to Community Organization
On May 16, 2008, the Citrus County Library System (CCLS) held its annual Staff Development Day. As part of the planned activities, Library personnel opened their hearts and closets and donated items for a silent auction. As in previous years, money raised through the silent auction has been given to a local, charitable organization.
After a day of mini-training sessions, it was announced to staff that the silent auction had raised an all time high of $950.00. Staff had voted early in the day to “adopt” CASA as the charitable organization for Staff Development Day 2008.
Friends of the Floral City Public Library Book Sale Success!
Submitted by: Mary Zavotsky
The Friends of the Floral City Public Library (FOL) book sale was a huge success and brought in $4,130.73. The sale of the old bookcases from the old library that is being torn down in preparation for the construction of the new library contributed about $350 to this total.
Almost the entire membership of the Friends Group showed up at one point or another to help out.
Comments from many of the customers were extremely uplifting. They said they could see how much we loved what we were doing and that everyone was so helpful hunting for authors or titles they were looking for. Comments from customers and workers alike all had to do with how nice, comfortable, organized and friendly everything was. The FOL members said it was the best sale ever in how well everything worked and how relatively easy it all was.
The location - Hilton Hall - once again was perfect and the church people were as thrilled as the FOL members and book buyers with how things were set up.
All in all - a perfect weekend, congratulations to all that were involved.
