1. How do I get started?

First, make sure you have a compatible computer or device. You can visit OverDrive's Device Resource Center to discover if your device is compatible with OverDrive ebooks.

To use the OverDrive service, the first thing you'll need is a valid and current library card and your PIN. You'll use your library card number and PIN to login to your OverDrive Account. If you are unsure of your PIN, contact your local library.

Next, visit OverDrive Help and choose your device under "Get Started With..." to read about what each individual device requires for setup. Some devices have different requirements than other devices.

You can also take a Guided Tour and view short videos which explain about ebooks and how OverDrive works.

2. OverDrive? What is OverDrive?

OverDrive is the leading digital distributor of ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital content to libraries. OverDrive works with book publishers to manage content securely and provides the software necessary to download and access that content. OverDrive is also essentially the only organization capable of providing this service on a large scale.

All of our downloadable ebooks are accessed through the OverDrive catalog on OverDrive software--whether by web browser or through an application on your device. The library does not host ebooks--OverDrive manages this for us.

3. What devices are supported?

OverDrive supports all major e-reader devices, such as the Nook, Kindle, iPad, and Sony eReader.

4. Do I set this up at the library?

No, in almost all cases you will manage this software from home. Several of the devices require download of OverDrive's software, which must be synced to your specific device and cannot be downloaded to library computers.

You can find lots of help at the Digital Collections Help area on our OverDrive catalog. You can also find step-by-step help when you visit our OverDrive catalog and click on the "My Help!" image on the top left.
